Five Transformative Economic Trends Examined: Massachusetts Executives, Global Economist Lead Panel

Newton, MA, June 15, 2012 – MassEcon hosted its Annual Conference today at the Boston Marriott Hotel in Newton. Nearly 150 business leaders, academics, and public officials from across the Commonwealth attended the event to participate in a panel discussion on “Five Trends That Have Transformed the Economy Forever: Why this Matters for Massachusetts Companies.”

The panel discussion was moderated by Bob Boudreau, CEO of The Winter, Wyman Companies and featured speakers Dr. Catherine Mann, the Barbara and Richard M. Rosenberg Professor of Global Finance at the Brandeis University Business School; Jeff Beck, Chief Operating Officer of iRobot; Dr. Prat Moghe, Vice President of Big Data Appliance Strategy & Products at IBM; and Mohamad Ali, CEO of Aspect Workforce.

Key trends identified in the discussion were:

  • The globalization of technology as an enabler of outsourcing and offshoring
  • The emergence of big data and the power of analytics
  • The transformational effects of software in optimizing the customer experience
  • The mainstreaming of robotics
  • The changes in the human capital and employer equation
