Vaccine manufacturer Moderna announced an expansion of its U.S. manufacturing footprint, investing more than $140 million in Moderna Technology Center in Norwood.

Past MassEcon Economic Impact Awards winner, Waters Corporation, a global leader in analytical instruments and software, opened a new manufacturing plant in Taunton where it uses technology that will make it significantly more energy-efficient than the existing plant at the site. Waters’ Taunton site is the first and only LEED-certified chemical manufacturing facility in Massachusetts and among a small number of LEED-certified industrial manufacturing projects in the U.S. The site nearly triples Waters’ manufacturing footprint, has already created 25 new jobs and provides growth capacity.

Pharmaceutical company Thermo Fisher Scientific celebrated the official opening of its 289,416 SF building in Plainville. The state-of-the-art facility will add approximately 300 jobs to support the development, testing, and manufacturing of viral vectors.

COVID-19 vaccine creator, Moderna, Inc., received a $2.325 million LSI incentive and TIF agreement valued at $9.1 million. The Norwood company committed to hiring at least 155 new Massachusetts-based employees for high-tech manufacturing positions in 2021 and retaining through 2025.

In Plainville, Mass., Thermo Fisher Scientific is building a 290,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, which will be the largest viral vector manufacturing facility in North America. The $190 million facility will be completed in 2222 and create more than 200 jobs.
april 2018
Waters Corporation will expand their current silica manufacturing facility in Taunton with a 135,000 square-foot addition. The company plans to hire 15 new employees, retain 94 employees, and make a private investment of $200 million. The City of Taunton has approved a 20-year Tax Financing Agreement with a value of approximately $3.7 million.
