{"id":3584,"date":"2014-02-28T19:25:30","date_gmt":"2014-02-28T19:25:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/massecon.com\/?p=3584"},"modified":"2014-02-28T19:28:03","modified_gmt":"2014-02-28T19:28:03","slug":"addressing-nations-skills-gap-accurounds-ceo-michael-tamasi-visits-white-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/massecon.com\/ja\/addressing-nations-skills-gap-accurounds-ceo-michael-tamasi-visits-white-house\/","title":{"rendered":"Addressing the Nation\u2019s Skills Gap: AccuRounds CEO Michael Tamasi Visits the White House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Massachusetts Ambassador and CEO of AccuRounds, Michael Tamasi recently had the distinct honor of visiting President Obama and the White House for an event to discuss strategies for helping the long-term unemployed get back to work. <!--more Continue Reading-->A focal point of the discussion was focusing more attention on sector partnerships, which essentially involve partnerships between businesses, educational institutions, and others to establish specialized curriculums for those jobs available in a localized area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">According to Tamasi, part of the problem is that there is a \u201chuge skills gap that we need to address.\u201d His 70-person company has 5 current job openings that he just can\u2019t fill because there is \u201cnobody with the skills to match the needs.\u201d AccuRounds is a contract manufacturer that machines and\u00a0assembles precision turned components, and requires highly skilled and trained workers. To compensate for the current gap in skilled labor, Tamasi said his company \u201clooks for attitude\u201d and supplements that with on-the-job training. He believes that developing more \u201csector partnerships\u201d in Massachusetts and across the country could help to close that skills gap and lower the number of long-term unemployed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Tamasi had an opportunity to share those viewpoints as one of only two small business representatives at an intimiate CEO roundtable held prior to the main event. The roundtable included President Obama, Vice President Biden, Secretary Perez, Secretary Pritzker, and CEOs from some of the nation\u2019s largest corporations including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8211; Richard Davis, Chairman, President, and CEO, US Bancorp<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8211; John Donahoe, President and CEO, eBay, Inc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8211; James Gorman, Chairman and CEO, Morgan Stanley<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8211; Jim McNerney, Chairman, President, and CEO, Boeing Company<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8211; Brian Moynihan, President and CEO, Bank of America<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8211; Arne Sorenson, President and CEO, Marriot International<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8211; Don Thompson, President and CEO, McDonald\u2019s Corporation<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8211; Greg Wasson, President and CEO, Walgreen Company<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">An impressive group for sure!
