MassEcon provides real estate market overviews, site tours, research, educational events, and other subsidiary tasks with the goal of increasing jobs within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. MassEcon solves problems that enhance a customer’s view of Massachusetts. Through interactions with Site Location Consultants, the regional and municipal economic development community, and companies directly, MassEcon makes the case for Massachusetts.
MassEcon joined the Massachusetts team to promote Massachusetts to the biopharma industry at the BIO2006 show in Chicago. MassEcon staff chaired the lead management committee responsible for targeting businesses prior to the show, calling on companies at the show and following up with them after the show. Before the show MassEcon was contacted by the consultant for DSM-Crucell with questions about finding a site in Massachusetts. MassEcon identified sites and participated with Massachusetts Business Resource Team in a meeting at the show with the company. MassEcon members NAI Hunneman and Coldwell Banker Residential Relocation were also key players on the team. As a result of the team Crucell made the decision to locate its US Research and Development facility in Cambridge, bringing 50 new jobs. The company chose Cambridge over Research Triangle Park, North Carolina and Montgomery County in Maryland.
In 2007 MassEcon, and engineering firm Fuss & O’Neill, co-hosted a series of seminars focused on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as an economic development tool. The seminars were held in different regions of the state and consisted of a panel of experts in the use and abilities of GIS. The seminars were geared toward local economic development officials as a way to use the tools to bolster the abilities to improve their local economies.

“Merck’s efforts to secure a site for a research facility in Massachusetts were immeasurably helped by the front-end work of the Massachusetts Alliance for Economic Development. Our key milestone of reaching agreement on a site would not have occurred when it did without MassEcon’s support.”Bill Mayo, Director Transactions, Portfolio Management, Merck
