MassEcon Assisted LEGO® Education in Choosing Massachusetts for North American Headquarters

BOSTON, Massachusetts – March 17, 2016

LEGO Education, with Mayor Martin Walsh and Boston Public Schools Superintendent Tommy Chang as featured speakers, opened its new North American Headquarters with a ribbon cutting and an open house on March 15, 2016. MassEcon was an active partner in promoting Massachusetts as the premier choice for business growth, assisted LEGO Education, the City of Boston, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in selecting Boston and finding the new location.

After a nationwide search, LEGO Education North America chose Boston’s historic Back Bay neighborhood for its headquarters. LEGO Education determined that Boston was the best location to foster its continuous growth, and it joins more than 50 education-related companies in a region with a focus on education.

“MassEcon was proud to have the opportunity to assist LEGO Education during the entire site selection process,” said Susan Houston, Executive Director of MassEcon. “Boston is the perfect location for an innovative education technology company.”

LEGO Education North America announced its relocation from Pittsburgh, Kansas, to Boston last summer. The search for a new location had begun in January 2015. MassEcon provided guidance in searching for a Massachusetts location, including commercial and residential real estate tours and meetings with university officials and education industry representatives, as well as state and local officials.

“We are so excited to call ourselves members of the community of Boston. This city is where public schooling started in America and is widely known as one of the best places in the world for education,” Colin Gillespie, President of LEGO Education North America, said in a LEGO Education media advisory.

“We are truly humbled by the amount of support we have received already since announcing that we were coming to Boston. We hope that this space can be a place that fosters long-lasting relationships and has a real impact on students both locally and nationwide. At LEGO Education, we strive to create lifelong learners and believe this office will bring us closer to that goal.”
